The Tata Medical Center Biobank collects tissue, blood and other samples from patients at various time points during their treatment at Tata Medical Center. The samples are stored to form a biorepository to which researchers can apply for biosamples and/or data.
The annotated tumour bank is a major core facility of the Tata Translational Cancer Research Centre (TTCRC) at the Tata Medical Center (TMC). Such facilities for cancer research are rare in India. A dedicated bank allows the rapid acquisition of samples ranging from blood to tissues and other body fluids, their storage and easy retrieval. It protects patient anonymity and provides quality assurance via customised data processing.
