Dr. Durba Biswas has joined the Department of Transfusion medicine at Tata Medical center Kolkata, as a consultant in 2026. She completed her M.B.B.S (2008-2013) from North Bengal Medical College followed by MD in Immunohematology and Blood transfusion (2016-2019) from Medical College and Hospital under the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. During her residency she had been awarded gold medal for the best post-graduate student. Subsequently she worked as a senior resident in the same hospital for further three years (2019-2022) during which she played an important role in setting up of Plasma bank for the collection of convalescent plasma to combat COVID-19 disease. She also participated in a phase-II randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of convalescent plasma in COVID-19 patients. Further she was instrumental in setting up of outdoor services for transfusion dependent patients at Medical College Kolkata which happens to be the first of its kind in the country. In 2023, she joined as a Clinical Associate at Tata Medical center, Kolkata where she continued in advancing quality improvement initiatives through development and implementation of robust SOPs and policies, conducting regular audits, spearheading the initiation of therapeutic aphaeresis services and actively mentoring the DNB and DMLT students. She got best-of-three oral paper award during the Transmedcon-2023. She has contributed as an author to a chapter in the DGHS Technical Manual, the national reference guideline for blood centers. An invited faculty at multiple national and state CMEs, with numerous national and international publications in reputed journals Dr. Biswas has consistently translated transfusion science into academic rigor. In recognition of her contributions to the field she was granted the exempt membership of the International Society of Blood transfusion in 2024. She demonstrates a strong inclination for advanced immunohematology, clinical transfusion services, academic research and collaboration, and remains committed in advancing these domains through sustained excellence and consistency.
