Dr. Shouptik Basu is a Surgical
Oncologist currently associated with the Department of GI-HPB Surgery at Tata
Medical Center, Kolkata. He completed his MBBS with Honours and was awarded the
State Gold Medal in Surgery. He subsequently obtained an MS in General Surgery
with a Gold Medal and was later awarded the prestigious Dr. B. Ramamurthy
National Gold Medal for his DNB. He completed his MCh in Surgical Oncology from
the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and holds Membership of the
Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Glasgow.
He has undergone training in
robotic surgery, minimally invasive cancer surgery, and peritoneal surface
malignancies. His clinical expertise includes gastrointestinal and colorectal
cancers, minimally invasive and robotic oncological procedures and advanced peritoneal
oncology.
Prior to joining Tata Medical
Center, Dr. Basu served as a Consultant at Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre &
Research Institute, Kolkata, where he led the Thoracic Oncology and Peritoneal
Oncology services and gained extensive experience in gastrointestinal cancer
surgery. He is actively involved in multidisciplinary cancer care, surgical
education, and clinical research.
A passionate educator, Dr.
Basu enjoys teaching and mentoring young surgeons. He has served as faculty on
multiple educational platforms, focusing on practical and evidence-based
surgical oncology. Dr.
Basu has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications, contributed
chapters to oncology textbooks, and serves on the editorial boards of several
international medical journals. His academic interests include innovation in
surgical oncology, clinical decision-support systems, and the application of
artificial intelligence and machine learning in cancer care.
