Dr
Jaydip Bhaumik is the Head of the Department, Gynaecological Oncology at Tata
Medical Center, Kolkata. Before relocating to India in 2009, Dr Bhaumik worked
as a consultant gynaecologist in South Wales, UK. He was an honorary lecturer
at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, preceptor for minimal
access gynaecological surgery for the Welsh Deanery, trainer at the Welsh
Institute of Minimal Access Therapy, and a BSCCP accredited trainer in colposcopy.
Dr Bhaumik made significant contributions in the development of UK based
protocols, some of them centred on his original research, for cervical
screening and colposcopy. At Tata Medical Center (TMC), Dr Bhaumik has created
and fostered the gynaecological oncology department now comprising of five
consultants and several trainees who are providing evidence based modern
scientific treatment to women suffering from cancer of the reproductive organs.
Apart from leading high-end clinical services like robotic surgery and
management of advanced ovarian cancer, he is associated with various research
projects from this institution and is currently leading a multicentre DBT
funded translational research. His most notable contribution is in the
development of a structured training program in gynaecological oncology in
India that initially started as a Fellowship at TMC and eventually taken up by
the National Board of Examinations for its DNB Super-specialty degree.
