Dr. Suvro Sankha Datta is a Consultant in the department of Transfusion Medicine at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata. He passed his MBBS from West Bengal University of Health Sciences in 2008 and completed his MD in Immunohematology & blood transfusion, from Medical College Hospital, Kolkata in 2014. He subsequently worked as a clinical fellow in the Transfusion Medicine department at TMC, Kolkata for one year and in 2015 he moved to The Mission Hospital as a consultant; where he established a state-of-art department with a day care centre for thalassemia and haemophilia patients. He was also instrumental to set-up an advanced coagulation laboratory with thromboelastography and platelet mapping facilities and started a paediatric therapeutic plasma exchange program there. After joining back to TMC Kolkata in 2019, he subsequently established a platelet serology laboratory for patients with platelet refractoriness. He was the key person to establish the molecular laboratory for blood group genotyping at TMC, Kolkata, first of this kind in the entire country. He is the faculty in-charge of the DNB program in Immunohaematology & blood transfusion at TMC Kolkata. He is a member of national and international scientific bodies in the speciality of Transfusion Medicine and also recipient of multiple awards including the Harold GunSon Fellowship by the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and H.D. Shoure Award by the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology (ISBTI).He is a certified reviewer of several international journals and has over 40 scientific publications in reputed National and International journals till date. His areas of interest include immunohaematology, platelets serology, evidence base transfusion practices, thromboelastography and therapeutic apheresis.
