><p><strong>The importance of infectious diseases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">India continues to hold top spot in many Infectious diseases (I.D) prevalence like TB. Moreover, increasing antimicrobial resistance is making infections difficult to manage. Individuals are living longer with access to health care, technological innovation, advanced surgical techniques, and ever-improving cancer care. These advances bring along with them the risk of infections. Chemotherapeutic agents, stem cell transplants, organ transplants save lives, but also increase chances of infections in these patients. To prevent, contain and effectively treat infectious diseases and to train the next generation of ID specialists, it is vital to have a department of infectious diseases in every good institute.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What we do<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Patient Service<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The department provides their inputs for both in-patients and out-patients referred to it. The patients referred generally have infections and complications therefrom. The department also is called upon to give inputs in complicated cases and in those having diagnostic dilemma. Besides the department sees all HIV patients that are under care of Tata Medical Center and the tuberculosis (TB) patients seeking care.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div  class='flex_column av-7ninri-433881e2555d910e85e3489bfa062fd9 av_one_half  avia-builder-el-14  el_after_av_one_full  el_before_av_one_half  first flex_column_div  column-top-margin'     ><div  class='av_promobox av-lz6uuwu0-ee6ebf13473d356bf33b46df23683e26 avia-button-no  avia-builder-el-15  avia-builder-el-no-sibling '><div class='avia-promocontent'><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Infectious Diseases OPD<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Service is currently available from Monday to Friday between 2 and 4pm and Soumyadip Chatterji is available there for outpatient consultation. \u00a0 Prof. Bibhuti Saha is available in the hospital once a month. their relatives (as applicable) from Monday to Friday between 2 and 4pm and immunisation plays an important role in preventing infectious complications in cancer and bone marrow transplant Prof. Saha has, since then, been the visiting consultant. In August 2020 the hospital formally started its Infectious Diseases department with joining of Dr. Soumyadip Chatterji as a consultant. Very few centres of India currently have such a department with a trained consultant. Dr. Chatterji, a postgraduate in Tropical Medicine and having a DM degree in Infectious Diseases (from A.I.I.M.S, Delhi) was previously attached to this hospital as a fellow. The department is involved in training of staff. It also trains D.M infectious Diseases trainees who come on rotation. It also hand hold observers, interns and fellows who come from India and abroad to get trained in state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics in Infectious Diseases.
