Department of Clinical Nutrition

The department of Clinical Nutrition in Tata Medical Center delivers evidence-based individualized nutrition care to patients with cancer. This is an active department offering more than 5300 consultations per year to patients diagnosed with all types of cancers at different point of their treatment.

Two clinical nutritionists in the department deliver nutrition support to patients both in the in-patient and out-patients setting on referral basis as per protocol. Nutrition assessment, intervention and follow up are all documented on electronic hospital management system. Nutritionists actively take part in intra-departmental teaching/ knowledge sharing sessions.

Clinical Nutritionist

Tiash Sinha is a registered dietitian (RD) from the commission on dietetic registration, American Dietetic Association. After receiving her undergraduate degree in clinical nutrition from Gokhale Memorial Girls College, University of Calcutta, she completed her post-graduation in clinical nutrition from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey followed by specialization on enteral and parenteral nutrition support to be a certified nutrition support clinician (CNSC) from the national board of nutrition certification established by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN). She worked as the clinical nutrition manager at Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston till 2012 before joining Tata Medical Center.

Reshma Ray has done her graduation in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics from University of Calcutta in 2001 and Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics from same university in 2003. Later she did her Masters in Dietetics and Community Nutrition Management from Vidyasagar University in 2006. She started her career at Westbank hospital, Howrah in 2001 as Dietician. Before joining Tata Medical Center she worked at Westbank hospital, Jubilant Kalpataru Hospital and Columbia Asia Hospital as Clinical Nutritionist. She also worked voluntarily with Operation smile as Clinical Nutritionist for nutrition management of cleft children. She completed one month International Learner Program at SickKids Hospital, Toronto, Canada on Clinical Nutrition management of children with different disorders in 2011. Her areas of specialisation are – evidence based clinical nutrition management of cancer, burns, cleft and malnutrition in adult as well as kids. Her area of interest also includes digitalisation of clinical nutrition service and research. She was invited as guest faculty at different universities. She started her carrier at Tata Medical Center in May 2011 as Clinical Nutritionist and established Clinical Nutrition service of this hospital. Later she was promoted to Senior Clinical Nutritionist in 2014.
